Recruitment Launches for Spring 2017’s Step It Up Program

We are excited to announce that we are currently recruiting teachers and schools interested in our our Step It Up program! Step It Up is a program developed by CHIL that equips students with pedometers and works with teachers to integrate pedometers into relevant class curriculum.

During our visits to our two pilot programs at The Expeditionary Learning School and Achievement First University Prep High School in Brooklyn, we witnessed firsthand how students engaged with the program to make healthier choices in their everyday lives. Some students chose to be more active at home, while others altered their commute to school—choosing to walk or get off a stop earlier on the subway—to get extra steps in. Students were excited to share with us how using pedometers changed their outlook on physical activity and health.

During Mr.Seely’s gym class at Achievement First University Prep High School, students set pedometer goals and discussed ways they could increase their physical activity in and out of school.

Based on these encouraging results, we are looking to expand this program in 2017 to reach even more children and communities! We are looking for middle or high schools to join us in our spring campaign by Dec. 2016. We hope to partner up with innovative educators in New York City to help make a lasting difference in students’ lives with our program. We currently have wristband pedometers and clip-on pedometers available for loan beginning in Jan. 2017. There is also no fee for participation in this program.

If you or someone you know is interested in partnering with us, please reach out to us at programs@chilnyc.org.
