We’re finally doing it! We are going to launch our second pedometer project this April. CHILNYC will be working with a group of high school kids at the Achievement First University Prep High School in Brooklyn. We are hoping to get more children active this year and nudging them to form healthy habits along the way.
But we can’t do it without your help!
All we need from you is $15 to equip one child with one pedometer. With each pedometer they can:
- actually see how active they are
- keep track of their steps
- get the exercise they may not have outside of school
- able to have fun competing with each other for tangible goals
Studies show that more than one third of the American population were overweight or obese. Since 2005 to 2013, 11 percent of high school students in New York City were considered obese according to the Youth Risk Behavior Survey. That’s about 59,000 kids between the ages of 15 to 19 in New York City who run the risk of high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and other cardiovascular disease.
By contributing $15 for a pedometer, you are helping kids live a more active and healthier life that will carry on into their adulthood.
